Brass: Birmingham — Can You Build Over Someone's Network?

Played Brass: Birmingham last night and we had a rules dispute.

Player A built a canal connecting two cities. Player B wants to build on that same route in the Rail era. Is this allowed? We read the rulebook three times and couldn’t agree.

This happens at least once per game with us. Are we the only ones?

Yes, you can overbuild canals in the Rail era. ALL canal-era links are removed when transitioning to Rail. Then anyone can build on those routes. It's one of the most commonly missed rules.

This is THE #1 rules question for this game on BGG. You're definitely not alone. The transition between eras is poorly explained in the rulebook.
