Rules Mistakes You Played With for YEARS

Confession time. What rules did you get wrong for an embarrassingly long time?

Mine: We played Terraforming Mars for a YEAR without realizing you can’t play cards from the draft face-up for everyone to see. We were showing our entire draft picks. Completely different game once we fixed that.

Played Carcassonne for 2 years before realizing you can't place a meeple on a feature that connects to another player's meeple. We just... put them wherever. Chaos.

**Wingspan**: didn't realize you tuck cards UNDER the habitat, not discard them. Played 30 games before a friend corrected us. Those tucked cards are supposed to be points!

Brass: Birmingham: forgot that selling to a trader tile flips it to the other side AND scores you money. Thought it just flipped. Played 5 games wondering why we were always broke.

Spirit Island: played the entire first game without using innate powers. Thought the card powers were ALL you had. No wonder I was getting destroyed.

This thread is making me want to re-read every rulebook I own. I'm probably still playing something wrong right now.
