Ticket to Ride: best map after the original?

My family wore out our copy of vanilla Ticket to Ride USA over Thanksgiving — like actually worn, edges fuzzy — and my mom wants a new version for Christmas but there are SO MANY boxes now.

I play other stuff on the side (Azul, Splendor) but parents are scared of icons. Need something that still feels like TTR so teach time stays sane.

What map did you buy second and why? Bonus if it plays well at 4-5 with mild chaos but not ‘everyone hates each other’ chaos.

Budget is basically one big box, not collecting the whole line.

Nordic countries if you mostly play at 2-3. Tighter map, less train soup

Europe is the classic second map. tunnels and stations add just enough without being a new game

I own 4 maps and still reach for USA for family holidays. bigger isnt always better
