Two-Player Date Night Games That Won't End in Divorce

My partner and I are trying to make Tuesday nights our board game night. We’ve been playing Azul but we’re ready to branch out.

Constraints: 2 players, under 60 minutes, something where skill gap doesn’t ruin it, not take-that. Bonus points if it’s easy to set up on the couch.

Games we’ve liked: Azul, Codenames Duet, Splendor. Games we bounced off: Star Realms (too swingy), Chess (too much skill gap).

7 Wonders Duel is the gold standard. Competitive but not mean, fast enough to play twice in a night.

Jaipur! It's quick, it's fun, it's got camels. What more do you need?

My partner and I have been on a Patchwork kick for two years. Only game where we're both competitive but nobody gets salty.

Hot take: play a co-op for date night. Pandemic Legacy S1 as a two-player campaign is genuinely one of the best experiences of my life.

Whatever you do, don't play Twilight Struggle on a date night. My ex still brings it up.
